Come Sail Away…

Remember last week how I was telling you about my love for Etsy? Well in addition to the gallery wall I’m SLOWLY acquiring prints for, I’m also focusing on – you guessed it – a nautical themed bathroom!

New anchor towel hook I got at Hobby Lobby!

New anchor towel hook I got at Hobby Lobby!

I think this is my way of saying I miss living in my sorority house. Just kidding. πŸ™‚ There’s something to be said about being an adult and having your own bedroom and TV, and stuff you miss out on when you live with 30+ other females.

So I’ve taken to (mainly) EtsyΒ and Pinterest again to find some cute anchor/sailor knick knacks I can add to the newly-remodeled bathroom (an entire post on those renovations coming to the blog very soon), and primarily the shelves we’ve added.

Here’s what I have in mind so far (all purchases were okay’d by Jeff too!):

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions to make my concept better. If you come across any cute anchor ANYTHING send it my way.

P.S. for any guys out there reading this, I promise I’ve run everything by Jeff. Turns out he’s not as invested in the decorative touches as I am. πŸ˜‰

Six Sweet Months…

Piper Upside Down

How could you not love that face??

Today our sweet, sweet Piper is six months old. We’ve only had her for about two and a half months (some days it feels like six), but my has she grown!

Piper First Came Home

Piper with her brother Chase the day they were adopted. So little!

We’re so lucky Jeff’s wonderful parents found her and her brother (Chase) at a shelter in Texas at the beginning of October and asked us if we’d like to take her home when we came to visit at Thanksgiving. I’d been wanting a puppy for a few months so when the offer came, it was all I could do to immediately say YES! Jeff, unlike me, was not naive to the knowledge that puppies are A LOT of work, so he took a little convincing. Thankfully not too long. πŸ™‚

Now don’t get me wrong, we’ve had our ups and downs….

Let me tell you, that was a long day.

but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. πŸ™‚

We love you sweet girl and we’re so glad you’re ours!

Does it Stay, or Does it go….

office 4

That question was asked A LOT this weekend. Does Jeff still need his college text books? A boom-box from what I can only guess was the 90’s? A printer that doesn’t even work?

Jeff’s office (aka…room where he threw everything he didn’t need), which will become my closet/dressing room/office of sorts, began the big makeover this weekend and all with minimal disagreements! That’s a success in my book. πŸ™‚

The two pictures below were from Saturday before any major work was done.

And this was Sunday (dun, dun, dun, DUN!…)

Now it’s obviously not done, but we’re making progress and that’s what counts, right? We got it all cleared out so Jeff could add texture to the wall. Since this is an older home, the texture helps cover-up some of the blemishes of the older structure (or so I’m told). So no, that’s not a sponge paint look we’ve got going on. It will be painted over very soon!

This is what the texture looks like pre-paint.

The weekend wasn’t all work. In between Chinese food carry-out, wine, and episodes of Homeland (Oh my goodness, that show! I just can’t stop watching!) Jeff found some time for fun on our weekly Home Depot run. πŸ™‚

Boys will be boys, right?

Oh hey Etsy, I Kind of Love you…

If only I had an infinite amount of money, right? I’m fairly certain that whole ‘never running out of money’ thing comes at age 27. πŸ˜‰

And no, this is unfortunately not a sponsored post with any type of giveaway (I think I need a few more readers first), but don’t let that stop you from reading!

Anyway, as of late I feel like all I’m ever spending my money on is cute home knick knacks or chotchkies (don’t worry Mom, I’m still paying my bills too). Jeff handles all the building, painting, caulking, etc, and I focus more on the home decor shopping. That’s fair, right? πŸ˜‰

Two rooms in the house have been my main focus, the bathroom and living room.

First up, the living room, or more specifically a “where we’ve lived” gallery wall.

A quick note: When I’ve ordered prints I’ve often changed text or background colors to better suit my color scheme. So the prints you see here are the original ones, but once the gallery wall goes up (in a month or two) I’ll show you how I tailored many of these to fit my needs.

Let me know what you think. Any creative ideas or helpful tips are always appreciated.

And for the record, I blame all of this on Pinterest (you can follow me, here)! I just can’t help myself when I find something cute.

Next week, I’ll show you what I’ve ordered from Etsy to help complete the bathroom. I think it’s pretty darn cute. (Hint: it might have something to do with me being a lovely Delta Gamma in college.)

What a Weekend to be a Washingtonian…

Whew, that’s some alliteration. Anyway, not sure if you heard about the whole swearing-in of the president today. πŸ˜‰

Missouri Innaugruation Reception 1

Jeff and I got all dressed up for the Missouri Inaugural Reception. So fun!

There really is something exciting and prideful about the inauguration process. Aside from any political differences, it’s a great opportunity to witness an historic moment that plays such a critical role in our long-standing democracy. And although it literally took us THREE HOURS (no thanks to Metro) to get home, despite only having six miles to travel from the inaugural ceremonies, it was a day/weekend I won’t soon forget!

Here are a few snapshots of the big inauguration day:

(Disclaimer: I’m short and we were pretty far away so you won’t see any close-ups of the president. Sorry!)

Yep, we were pretty far away.

We were out late the night before at the inaugural reception, so there wasn’t time for make-up this morning.

P.S. The nearly three hour journey home didn’t sit well with Jeff. We were separated for part of the trek, when I received the ‘uplifting’ text below. He sure has a way with words. πŸ˜‰

All Quiet on the Eastern Front…

I was trying VERY hard to work from home yesterday while waiting on a furniture delivery (you’ll hear more about that later) and the pups were making it VERY difficult. Just when I thought I might lose it, I came downstairs to find this….

2013.01 Pups Sleeping

Lately, there’s really not much else I love more than the sight of these two sleeping peacefully.

Sometimes silence is the greatest sound of all, and that’s saying a lot coming from someone like me. πŸ™‚

Where do I begin…

Oh hello.

I’ve gone and done it. I’ve started a blog.

I know there are millions of blogs out there about food, style, pets, home decor, etc…but I still wanted a place to share my life here in Washington, D.C., with my family and friends in Missouri, Iowa and all over the country. I’m not sure I have any friends internationally, but correct me if I’m wrong!

I’m particularly excited to start sharing stories with you, because not only have Jeff (the boyfriend) and I decided to move-in together, (scary, I know!) but we just adopted an adorable puppy named Piper. I’m totally and completely in love with her and our five-year-old boxer Cosmo. I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about them later. πŸ™‚

Sweet, Sweet Cosmo

Plus part of the moving-in together entails Jeff and I doing a lot of work on his house before the big move-in day in March. And right now I’m kind of obsessed with decorating, so I’m looking for an outlet (that’s where you come in) to share my thoughts and ideas. Feedback is always welcome.

I’ve also kind of taken up the whole photography thing and what better way to share all those photos, right? Besides I don’t really want my Facebook friends to hate me for posting photos all the time.

So…I may not be perfect at the whole blogging thing just yet, but bare with me, I plan to try my hardest.

Welcome aboard. I hope you’ll enjoy the site!

P.S. as much as Jeff may protest blogging, he came up with the name. Don’t let him tell you otherwise. πŸ˜‰
