Dashing through the snow…

okay, so maybe it wasn’t a lot of snow, but we did get a snow day out of the deal! So, I’m not complaining.

2013 Snowday 2 Snowday 2013

^^And hey, it provided a few hours of winter beauty, which of course is the perfect excuse to turn up the Christmas music and get the soup cooking!^^

Much like our ‘snowday’ last winter, the dogs frolicked in the snow/slush mix and napped. In that order.

Cosmo Snowday 2013 Dogs Snowday 2013

^^Now, I know that photo might look bad, but I promise they just love to chase each other and growl. It’s what they do. 99% of the time they’re sweet as pie. 🙂 ^^

Besides, then after they’re all worn out, they turn into little angels like this one… 😉

Piper Sleeping, Snowday 2013

I’m only slightly hopeful we can snag a few more days (not like blizzard amount or anything) this winter curled-up with these sleeping (they’re definitely not as cute when they’re misbehaving) pups.

This looks familiar…

I’m telling you, she’s basically Kelly “The Dog Whisperer,” and much like the last time, there was another sweet little boxer (not that I’m biased) that just took to her. You might’ve seen him on this blog before. 😉

Cosmo and Kelly 5If you follow me on Instagram (you mean, you’re not tired of all those dog photos yet?) then you might’ve noticed we made the long drive to Missouri last week with the pups in tow! It’s definitely not as simple as Jeff and I hoping on a plane, but well worth it with these two and the little bond they had going on. I think I say, “my heart’s melting” far too much, but this time I really mean it.

Cosmo and Kelly 2

^^I mean Cosmo even let her use him as a footrest with little complaint! Can’t say he’s thrilled when I try that too.^^

Cosmo and Kelly 4 Cosmo and Kelly 1

I’m thinking I’ll just secretly adopt a boxer and leave it on their doorstep. I’m positive my parents will thank me for it later. 😉

My heart might be melting…

and I’m only exaggerating a little. I mean aren’t my ‘little’ Cosmo, and our friends daughter Addie just the sweetest?

Addie and Cosmo 1

Every time she’s over Cosmo just follows her around thinking (or at least I’m guessing he’s thinking) he’s going to have to jump in and save her at a moments notice. You never know.

Well this time, Addie was just big enough (she’s growing so fast!) that she wasn’t even slightly afraid to pet or love on him. I couldn’t get enough.

I think he’s just smitten by this tiny, cute little human. But then again, how could you not be with a little smile like that one…

Addie 1 BW

Brb. Going to mop up my melted heart. 🙂

P.S. I also snapped a few family photos of Ben, Grace & Addie for their upcoming Christmas card and as a result I got this little gem out of the mini-shoot. Got to love babies.

Dogs Playing

So in the midst of weddings (not ours yet!) and working on our never-ending project (at least it feels that way), I’ve realized I’ve forgotten to give you all a little update on the pups. I know you’ve been clamoring for one.

Well luckily for you, they’re still crazy and cute as ever. Which….is probably why I followed them around the yard last weekend for far too long trying to snap the best photos.  I’m that dog mom I’ll admit it, but hey, at least Jeff was thankful the camera wasn’t on him for once.

Dogs Playing 2

I think she’s saying, “Wait, you took my toy Cosmo!” Or something like that.

Piper in the Backyard

^^I mean, but seriously, would you be able help yourself either?^^

Okay, so aside from chasing the dogs around, we did get SOME work done. That was until Jeff’s tools failed.

As we wait for the new ones to arrive, I thought I’d leave you with a little photographic evidence of the next phase of the project.

Cutting the Kitchen Countertops

We’re getting there slowly but surely. And, here’s hoping we have a much more productive weekend!

P.S. Oh yeah, and Happy Halloween!

These two…

they’re sure to warm (possibly melt) even the coldest of hearts.

Kelly and Cash 4 Kelly and Cash 3 Kelly and Cash 2Kelly fell pretty hard for Jeff’s parents newly-adopted pup Cash when we were all hanging out in Texas last week. Also not the craziest of dog lovers like my former self, I think Kelly might have been converted to the good side last weekend. 😉

And sweet Cash, what a trooper. I think when he wasn’t near Kelly she called for him no less than a 100 times. That girl is persistent and at times impatient, but then again, I wouldn’t know what that was like.

I mean seriously, could they be any sweeter?

brb, Kelly and I are off to secretly plot ways to get Cash to come live with one of us. 🙂

Meet the parents…

Texas style, y’all. And far less dramatic than any movie.

Texas 2

Texas 1

I’m back to blogging more regularly after a little vacation home, and then a long weekend in Dallas where Jeff and I’s parents finally met! Ekk! Who am I kidding, it went great. There was basically no chance for failure since we’re both lucky to have some pretty wonderful parents.

Meet the Parents TexasIn all honesty, we had this weekend planned well before Jeff put a ring on it, but now that we’re doing the whole wedding planning thing we decided it was perfect timing for our respective parents to meet. Since Jeff’s parents graciously offered to host, we made our way to The Lone Star State for a weekend of eating, sight-seeing, lounging, and more eating (paused the wedding diet for a few days).

Texas 3

^^See what I mean? My future hubby (I think I like that better than fiance) worked all day on those ribs and they were good. When in Texas, eat as the Texans do!^^

Kelly and Cash 1

^^These two, they were two peas in a pod the whole weekend. I’ve got a whole post on their love connection coming later this week. It’s too cute to miss.^^

Since dating, Jeff and I’ve been to Dallas many times, but this was the first time we paid a visit to Dealey Plaza, site of President Kennedy’s Assassination.

Texas Dealey Plaza

While a somber moment in history, the historical significance got to me. Jeff and I kept remarking that even though we weren’t alive at the time, we could feel the emotion as we read about all the history of that day in November.

^^As you can barely see in the background the white “X” marks the precise spot of the Kennedy Assassination, and when we finished taking this photo I turned to Jeff and exclaimed “why didn’t you smile?” Jeff: “I don’t know, do you smile at something like that?” Fair point.^^

Texas 4

What a great visit. Now we’re all really ready for the wedding. Oh wait, we’ve got a little time for that. Whew.

It’s just like that movie “Couples Retreat”…

except, minus the tropical location and the whole talking about our feelings part. But hey, Lake Anna is not a bad substitute for meeting up with great friends, enjoying the sun, and drinking a few adult beverages (just a few).

CR 2013 1

What, you don’t have a wine koozie? You should probably get one.

So in this small world we live in, my best friend from high school, who also lives in D.C., happens to date Casey (pictured above) who’s good friend from high school Brandon, is one of Jeff’s good friends from college. Still following me? Basically, we have a little circle of friends from several walks of life, and having all that in common we decided to turn this get together into an annual thing! Second annual, to be exact.

CR 2013 8

Seriously, how cute are these ladies? My high school friend Amanda on my left, and Brandon’s sweet wife Lee on my right.

We met up at Jeff’s parents house on Lake Anna for the weekend and spent lots of time on the water,

and of course spoiling the dogs, Piper and Cosmo, and Amanda’s collie Wynter.

CR 2013 4Oh and because we’re all getting old, there was a nap or two in there.

CR 2013 5Love spending our summer with great friends, but it wouldn’t hurt if time slowed down a little bit. Now, it looks like it’s back to more home repairs. I’ll clue you in on a little project we’re working on later this week!

Hiking meets a little history…

especially in a state like Virginia. I guess when your state’s home to one of the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the old Capital of the Confederacy there’s a little history to discover.

Manassas Battlefield Hiking Trail 8

Having never been till our day trip on Saturday, Jeff suggested we take the dogs for a long hike along the Manassas National Battlefield Park. Not only was it beautiful and rich with Civil War history, but it was a nice change of pace from our normal dog walk/ workout routine. Besides, anything that makes the dogs sleep for the rest of the day is a-ok in my book.

Now, I’m not usually one to be excited about activities that require a lot of nature, but since Jeff’s been working so hard on the house lately I thought it was only fair to participate in an activity he wanted to do, and turns out I kind of loved it.

Here’s a few photos from our little adventure.

Manassas Battle Field Hiking Trail

I might have circled a certain crazy dog that photobombed Jeff with his excitement over the hike. That one loves to be one with nature.

For Piper and I, nature’s not always our best friend.

If you’re in the northern Virginia area, I highly recommend the trails. Just a quick forty-minute drive from D.C.!

Sicker than a dog…

I guess since Piper’s a dog and currently the sick one in the house, I probably need a new metaphor, but poor little girl is not feeling so great. 😦

Piper Sick 1

After the long night we had, we’re all taking it easy today. I think Jeff and I may have gotten a little taste of parenthood last night. Turns out we’re not our happiest selves when we have to clean up after the dog at 3am.

Piper Sick 2

Cosmo’s not sick, but relaxing shouldn’t be a problem for him. 🙂 He’s got the whole nap thing figured out.

Cosmo

Happy Friday all. Hopefully yours is off to a better start!

P.S. any tips out there for taking care of a dog with an upset stomach? The more help the better!

It’s for the dogs…

A few years ago if you’d told me I would willingly spend a weekend at the lake with six dogs (yes, six) I would have thought you were crazy. Now, I just think I’m crazy for loving my dogs a little too much. 🙂

Chase, Piper and Cosmo in Lake

A meeting of the minds.

At the risk of going a little overboard (no pun intended), I took lots of photos of Piper and Cosmo hanging out with Jeff’s parents and sister’s dogs this past weekend at Lake Anna, Va.

Lake Anna

It’s one of my favorite places in Virginia.

Chase in Water 1

You may remember, Jeff’s parents adopted both Piper and her brother Chase at a shelter in Texas and then generously let us take her back over Thanksgiving. Well this time, his parents and their three dogs made the drive from Texas to Virginia to hangout with all of us for a few days. And Piper and Chase (the dog in the photo above) couldn’t have been happier to be reunited. It warmed my heart.

Chase and Piper Fighting Over Sock

Fighting just like any brother or sister would do!

Chase and Piper in the Lake 2Chase and Piper in the Water

You might have noticed that Cosmo’s not in the water with them, well…he’s very fast and has a tendency to run away, so he can’t be trusted off the leash. Poor guy just had to standby and watch. 😦

Cosmo Staring at the Lake

Oh, and they just adopted a new nine(ish) year-old Pomeranian (no one’s entirely sure of his age) named C.J., who I’m quietly plotting ways to steal. This dog is not only adorable, but so calm. If you walk him a block he’ll be ready for a good three-hour nap. Similar to my way of life. 😉

CJ

This dog. He gets me.

Peyton and CJ

Peyton the puggle on the left, whew is she full of personality. She starts a little trouble every now and then.

I promise there were humans present this weekend too, it’s just all those photos aren’t quite as cute.
